About Our Chapter

During the pandemic, two of our founding members were approached about starting a chapter in a growing area of Northern Virginia. Shannon Combs-Bennett and Sarah Henze began creating the Phillis Wheatley Chapter, NSDAR, based in Haymarket. Their primary goal was to create a chapter where all who wanted to join were welcomed with open arms.

Rain Could Not Stop Us

Our organizing meeting was held at La Grange Winery in Haymarket, Virginia. The usually beautiful winery was cold, gray, and rainy instead. However, the attendees were warmed by the speeches given, love shown, and friendships fortified. Our State Regent LeAnn Fetherolf Turbyfill and District VIII Director Margaret Stromberg were in attendance. Mrs. Turbyfill presented our organizing regent with a gavel from the Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution.

We Are Still Growing

Our chapter was organized with 25 transfer members and 19 new members in three months (August–October 2020). Each year, we grow even more as women learn about all the wonderful things we do as a group in the area.
